The REK2 Scooter - A review by Robert Powell

Robert writes...

The ES2000 is a simple and quick electric scooter with very cool retro styling which makes me proud to own one. With that in mind I write this review for al those looking to have a great, cheap to run bike.

Style:
The retro styling of this bike is defiantly coming back in to fashion particularly in larger cities like London and Paris, just look at the mini, being remade and loved as much as the first one made all those years ago. Because this styling is from an era where no one used purpose made riding cloths you don’t need to worry about matching your cloths with your bike, just sit on the seat and have a great time.

Handling:

The handling of this bike becomes instinctive almost instantly once you sit on it, although some areas my take a few trips to perfect, for instance moving from a standing start the bike dose have a tendency to move of quickly but a slower start is just a matter to getting used to your own bikes accelerator, just the same as any bike, these have their own character. Taking a corner on this bike comes naturally to any one who has been on ANYTHING on two wheels. The trick is to simply easy of the accelerator, as you lean ever so slightly, before twisting the accelerator again.

rek2-review-picSpeed:
Speed on this bike is not a problem that I have found, with a limit of 45kph (28MPH) this bike is perfect for our British roads as you can sit back and enjoy the ride with out watching the speedometer as you sit a nice 2mph under the speed limit. The only thing I can otherwise say about the speed is the bike will rarely go over 25mph on steep hills however although it will, although it still accelerates slowly up hill so it may be possible to get to top speed. However I am not a small person and that is probably down to me.

Comfort:
There is little to be said here and nothing to criticise as personally I find that the bike is very comfortable even over rougher ground such as dirt roads whether you are driving or a passenger on the bike thanks to is shock absorbers. Another feature I must mention is that the bike is almost completely silent meaning you are more aware of what is around you.

Storage:
The bike itself has a glove pocket at the front and a lockable under seat compartment that will fit an open face helmet with ease, however I have found that some extra large (full-face) helmets of various brands can be a shade to large.

Running Costs:
The running costs of this bike are almost none existent as a full charge will give me (a slightly larger gentleman) about 30-35 miles, which includes some steep hills, at a cost of a mere 20p. I also found that insuring this bike was highly reasonable, which when added to the free road tax makes this bike cheep in the both the short, and long term.
I have also found that many insurance companies are starting to do special deals for electric vehicles that are often cheaper than petrol scooters.

Maintaining The Bike:

This bike is very easy to maintain as the only moving parts are two wheels, handle bars, buttons and the two stands (side and centre). This means the likely hood of having any expensive bills for parts are very low indeed.

My Judgment:
As I said at the start this is a very cool bike and I honestly believe that electric bikes are the way forward as even seasoned bikers have said what a brilliant piece on engineering these bikes are. I believe that no matter who you are you can and will be able to ride this bike which means it makes a great first or last bike, I often here myself say “God this is great fun”.
