What is it?

The Vectrix maxi-scooter is the world’s first high powered electric two-wheel vehicle designed to compete with large petrol powered scooters and motorbikes. What are the advantages over a petrol bike? Operating costs are a lot lower, there is minimal maintenance, zero emissions, virtually no noise, cheaper insurance, and no road tax.

Who are Vectrix?
The Vectrix Corporation was founded in the USA in 1996 to provide clean, efficient, reliable, and affordable transport. The management has brought together experts from the aerospace, motorbike, and alternative energy industries. The bike is manufactured in the EU.

Who are Reaction Electric?
Based in Bristol, Taunton, and Exeter, Reaction Electric market electric vehicles, electric cars, and re-charger systems.

How do I recharge my bike?
The bike comes with an onboard recharger, 2.5m lead, and standard 3 pin plug which fits any domestic socket.

Is it easy to ride?
Not only is it easy to ride, it is a lot of fun too. There are no gears, just a throttle and hand-brakes. The throttle also acts as a brake using a regenerative braking system. Unlike most motorbikes, it can reverse so parking is easier.

Do I need a full bike driving licence?
No. If you do not have a full motorbike licence, you will need to take the one day Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course. Most towns have a CBT centre, and the course covers an eyesight test and safety talk, learning the controls of a bike, learning to ride a bike, and riding on the roads. What is the performance of the Vectrix?

Acceleration is 0 – 50 MPH in 6.8 seconds (0 – 50 KPH in 3.5 seconds). Top speed is 62 MPH (100 KPH). With 65NM of torque, hills are tackled with aplomb.

How far will it go between charges?
It depends on your speed. At a constant 30 MPH the bike goes 55 miles between charges. At 50 MPH, this drops to 40 miles. Extra mileage is achieved using the regenerative braking system.

How green is it?
At the point of use, the Vectrix produces no emissions and no noise. Upstream, it depends how the electricity is generated. A green electricity tariff reduces the carbon footprint still further. The manufacture of the scooter has been measured by an independent consultant and, when taken into consideration, the Vectrix has a carbon footprint many times smaller than any petrol powered vehicle.

What if it breaks down?

This is very unlikely. The AA uses Vectrix for its London operations and rates it to be the most reliable vehicle on the roads. If there is a problem, AA roadside assistance is provided as part of the 24 month warranty (including batteries!).

How much can I save?
No road tax, low insurance, minimal maintenance, and cheap fuel make this a very economical vehicle. If you are on a normal electricity tariff your MPG, in terms of cost, equates to over 500 MPG. If you use Economy 7, and charge the bike at night, this goes up to 1000+ MPG.
